Manchester Airport is constantly changing drop off locations and the fees that come with them. Use this handy guide to help you find these spots, the new Terminal 1 Arrivals car park, as well as where the free drop off zone is since it might not be too clear for everyone.
Avoiding drop off charges
When it comes to getting dropped off at the airport, it’s so much easier than driving yourself there and having to find a parking space. Being able to just leave the vehicle and walk straight to your terminal is the way to go. It’s faster, it’s easier, and much more convenient since it will not only save you time but it won’t burn a hole in your pocket!
The free drop off zone
Manchester Airport has a free drop off zone, but it is quite a walk away from the terminal. It is actually located on Thorley Lane just down the road, which means that you have to take a shuttle bus in order to get back to the terminal. You will have to be in the shuttle for about 10 minutes until you reach the terminals.
The drop off charges
At Manchester Airport, the paid drop off parking on the forecourts of the terminals is £3 for five minutes and £4 for 10 minutes. If you are too early and have to drive in a loop to kill time, you will have to pay a £25 penalty fee. The airport has a pick-up policy of £4 for half an hour in the parking structure. These charges can all be diminished with the free drop off zone, but keep in mind that you will have to make up for it with lost time since you will need to take a shuttle back to your terminal. It is really up to you whether you want to take a shuttle for free or pay the charges for parking or dropping off.
The New Terminal 1 Arrivals Parking Lot
Construction has forced Manchester Airport Terminal 1 to change as they put in 270 parking spaces in 2 new floors. In order to compensate for this, Manchester Airport has opened up a temporary arrivals parking lot located on Terminal Road North on the other side of the Skylink. The Terminal 1 parking lot can also be used for picking up if you need it.
Comparing drop off prices with parking
Taking into account the costs of traveling to the airport and the price of petrol, dropping off will cost you less than parking, although the difference is only a couple of quid. Driving and parking by yourself will also be a bit more inconvenient since you will need to do the parking on your own. So it is really up to your decision based on what is best for you and your family’s wants and needs. However, since there is also a free drop off spot, this could save you even more money. Even though it will cost you some time since you need to take a shuttle out to your terminal rather than just being able to walk to it with the other two drop off and parking options, you don’t have to pay for parking!
